ROUND ITALY: VENEZIA-MONTECARLO NON STOP

The Venice – Montecarlo first took place in 1990 as a multi leg race. The high costs involved in such long multi leg endurance challenge, slowly killed the competition, till Fabio Buzzi decided to take on a brand new challenge, the first Venice – Montecarlo non stop. On June 16th the FB 80’ left Venice, reaching Messina (for it’s solely fuel stop) with an average speed of nearly 52 knots. The second part of the journey, put to serious test the craft, which was hit by an unpredicted force 7-8 storm. Nevertheless the FB_80' proved unmatchable reliability in hull design and construction technology. The adverse conditions forced the FB 80’ to stop in Olbia where 24 hours later left, reaching Montecarlo at 17:55 of Monday 18th setting a new record with an average speed of 19,338 knots.

MONTECARLO - LONDON

Another Record for the FB_80'. On the 31st of July at 18.00 the FB 80’ left from Montecarlo headed for London in the attempt of steeling the Steigenburgher Tropyh held by Ultimaratio, captained by Mr. H. Werfte. And so it was, after a first refuelling stop in Gibraltar, averaging a superb speed of 43.18 knots and a second in El Ferrol (Spain), where more then four hours were lost for a malfunctioning in the refuelling truck’s pump, the FB 80’ reached London on the 3rd of August at 09.54 averaging 32.854 knots. It surely were not 63 hours of pleasent navigation, the first tough conditions were encountered in the crossing of the Golf du Lion, but nothing like the eleven hours across the Gulf of Biscay, where once again the boat and the crew were put through tough test. In a strong cross sea storm, the waves were continuously braking on the boat not allowing a minute for rest, nevertheless the FB 80’ was able to crash by over 26 hours the 23.29 knots of the previous existing record.

ROUND BRITAIN

In 30hr 51’ the FB_80' has dusted all previous records of the Norman Mackinnon Trophy. Just 15 days prior to the FB 80’ attempt, Peter Dredge (secretary of the British Powerboat Association) together with Ian Sanderson had completed the round Britain challenge in 39hr. 55’ with a Sunseeker XS 2000 boat designed by Fabio Buzzi.
